10/26/2018 0 Comments Oct. 21-26 weekly updateHello room one parents,
This week was great. Here are some topics we covered: -We talked about drawing diagrams and taking notes about important information -Students used these skills to start a research assignment about insect life cycles. -We have been working hard at modelling numbers using base 10 blocks in order to make concrete connections with ones, tens and hundreds in place value. -We discussed what makes a good sentence and what makes a GREAT sentence -We continued to talk about basic needs as they relate to humans and other animals. This coming week is Halloween! -Students will participate in a functional writing assessment -Wednesday will be a Belfasty day in the afternoon which means students will be organized in cross grade groups and be participating in Halloween themed science and math activities That's about it for the month of October! Have a great weekend! Dallin

At the end of the first week of October, here is what we've been getting up to:
-In our reading we've been focussing on making connections. Story to self as well as story to story -In math we have explored what makes a good or bad estimation, as well as modeling numbers to 100 using art. -In social studies we started to look at maps including a map of the world and a map of the school. -We continued to work on our letter sounds -We made some beautiful contour line portraits for our Budding Artist fundraiser (more on that to come) -We logged onto our computers with the help of our grade 5/6 buddies This is a four day week coming up due to the holiday Monday- but we have a lot to do regardless: -We will be starting to talk about place value -In science we will begin learning about doing research -In social we will create maps for a fantasy island as a ways to begin our discussion about basic human needs -Our writing will intersect with our science as we learn about taking notes and make connections from the stories we read to things we know about the world. -And of course, more learning new phonetic sounds! Note: Every Monday we will be exchanging our home reading. Please ensure you are returning the books brought home so that we have lots of new books for our students to choose from. Happy Thanksgiving! -Dallin |
