1/18/2019 0 Comments Week of January 14-18, 2019Hello parents,
This week was full of math, writing and science! Here are the highlights: -We learned to read thermometers and conducted an experiment that compared the temperature of three mugs full of liquid -We have started seriously talking about adding strategies that work for double digit numbers. -We had the opportunity to perform for the AM and PM kindergarten class. We sang "Land of the silver birch", "This land is your land" and recited "Billy Batter", a poem by Dennis Lee Next Week: -Next week we will be meeting up with our artist and residence (she couldn't make it this week). -We will conduct more Science experiments geared to understanding the concept of insulation in advance to our design project. -We will continue to work on regular reading, writing and math routines. Special note: -Thank you to everyone who has brought in materials for our building unit! we are still accepting additional materials (We would love some more yogurt containers, pop bottles and milk jugs). -On Tuesday (weather permitting) we will build mini snow quinzees to test their insulation abilities. Please make sure you child has good gloves and is dressed warmly on that day! Have a great weekend! -Dallin 1/10/2019 0 Comments Welcome Back! Jan. 7-11thHello Parents, Happy new year.
The class has gotten right back in action this week. Here are some highlights: -In Science we conducted an experiment by filling different containers with hot water to learn about the concept of insulation. -We painted a horizon line on our chalk pastel Northern lights project -We also wrote sensory poems about the Northern lights in language arts -In Math the students drew and organized a number line to 100 below the white board as we begin our addition to 100 Call for material -The students are going to be doing some building and prototyping in their Science coming up. First building and testing their own thermos and then with an entire unit on building materials. By reusing commonly recycled materials we can promote environmental awareness for the children as well access a cheap and plentiful resources. Here is a list of materials we would love to collect for our "workshop": -pop bottles (especially 2l!) -milk jugs any size -plastic yogurt containers -cardboard tubes -cardboard generally Thanks you and have a great weekend!
